The Cloverfield Room is now... VOID!

I wrote a script for the Cloverfield universe a few months ago. After some really great meetings with producers the plans have changed. The script has been reworked to be part of its own universe.

Here is the first teaser image with new title, the film is called VOID and I can't wait to share more info as soon as I can. Thanks and have a great rest of the week.

Don't Sue Me J.J. (Not Yet)

Hello all!

The Cloverfield universe AKA Cloververse has become more popular than ever recently. Theories are running a rampage online especially with the release of the third film, The Cloverfield Paradox. Now, yes the film isn't very good but some of the ideas has sparked an idea in me!

So J.J. don't sue quite yet, I've only started working on the script for my new short film idea, called The Cloverfield Room (working titled). I have mocked up a small teaser image below and I personally think it came out pretty good.

I think the image borrows perfectly from the elements introduced in 10 Cloverfield Land and The Cloverfield Paradox films. What do you guys think?

Talk to you guys soon!

North Carolina with Love.

Hurricane Irma was rushing towards the Florida coast so we (myself, Toni and her mom) escaped to Atlanta, Georgia for almost a week. Once we saw how Florida did and how horrible returning so soon would have been, we packed up and from there we moved on to North Carolina.

This was the view off a cliff in the early cold morning near the town of Franklin, NC.

This was shot on a Canon 5d mark iii. In post I added the letterbox and enhanced the color ever so slightly, it was over exposed on purpose and really gave it an almost Chinese ceramic feel.

Typing from a Starbucks again, talk soon!

Check Out This TIME. Movie Poster!

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to show all of you the new poster for TIME. my first micro short I released in 2016. It's simple but kind of interesting, and if you have seen the short film I think it has a science fiction feel to it.

I hope you like it! If you haven't seen the micro (under 60 second) short, watch it here - https://www.rubendariovasquez.com/time

GRIND - Hard at Work!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving this week!

I was hard at work outlining my new film titled Grind. The IMDB is up - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt7670342 - along with the first teaser poster and a brief description of the film.

 Grind

“Grind is a coming of age story that follows Peter and his best friend Reed during a long weekend in South Florida. Peter finds something that doesn't belong to him and after showing Reed the two of them get tangled in an underground world.”

Let There Be a Festival!

So we are almost at the finish line. Except once we cross this finish line we have to start another race, a race full of rejection and money loss.

What am I talking about?

Film festival submissions! The thought alone makes me want to cringe. I have always found it funny that most, okay some, but I’d like to think most filmmakers have no money, and the little money they do have has gone into the film they have just made.

So that finish line I talk about is the editing portion of the film, but once that’s done we have to get this f*cking thing into film festivals! And by have to I really mean want to, now a days we really don’t need to screen at film festivals to make an impact, the internet is an amazing thing.

In closing, I would love to see Goodbye! on a big screen, with at least someone other than my mom (joking) seeing it!

As always! Thanks for reading!

P.S. Sorry if there are spelling errors, I’m typing this from my phone in a Starbucks!

Cutting the Past! (Old Micro Short Film)

Hi Everyone!

I shot a micro film a few years back for an Instagram contest, and as I was cutting Goodbye! this week I realized I should look back at that old film.

That's exactly what I did!

The film is called TIME. and it was shot as a no budget micro (under a minute) film. And when I say no budget, I mean not one penny was spent filming this project. The old me wouldn't want to show this project, but I feel it was a good learning experience and I know today I am a much better filmmaker overall.

So I re-edited the project and here it is!

Behind the Scenes facts :

1. Shot in a few hours. (Had to battle the sunsetting.)

2. Only one actor is an actual actor (Fedor Steer). (He did a great job!)

Still A.jpg

3. We shot with natural light and a reflector. (Great catch light on Anna's eyes)

Still B.jpg

4. Shot with a Canon 5D Mark iii.

5. Script was written in a few hours. (I decided to participant in the contest late, giving me days to have a completed film.)

If you get anything from this post, I hope it's this : Grab your camera and go make a film. Practice makes you a better filmmaker!

The Post Production Finish Line!

This week is the end of post production on my new film Goodbye! and the beginning of festival submissions and hopefully the films festival run.

In today’s edit : Finalize the clips, tighten up the cuts and mix the music.

More to come! Thanks for following the adventure.
